The CA-4 countries in Central America (in addition to Honduras: Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua) put a 48-hour commerce blockade on Honduras as a sign of their displeasure. The reason this all happened was because Zelaya was going to take a vote this weekend among Hondurans that would clear the way for a vote on ammendments to the constitution. Being down here during this time has given me a unique perspective on these political happenings and I watched the breaking news with two Honduran women who were clearly not happy that a small group of politicans and judges decided to overthrow the government without consulting the people they represent. It seems that the majority of Hondurans and Central Americans feel like this was a very foolish move on the part of the government of Honduras. It doesn`t matter what your opinion on Hugo Chavez is, but this new Honduran government will probably be feeling his wrath in one way or another in the next few weeks. Good old Central American coups!</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/2178043150545632820/1605715740235138373/comments/default/6317810317245339623'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/2178043150545632820/1605715740235138373/comments/default/6317810317245339623'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://www.tompainesghost.com/2009/06/tegucigalpa-chicken-buses-and.html?showComment=1246668640889#c6317810317245339623' title=''/><author><name>Erin</name><email>noreply@blogger.com</email></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://www.tompainesghost.com/2009/06/tegucigalpa-chicken-buses-and.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2178043150545632820.post-1605715740235138373' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/2178043150545632820/posts/default/1605715740235138373' type='text/html'/></entry></feed>
